Bosz Picks Gasiorowski at Left-Back and Trusts Pepi Up Front

Bosz Chooses Gasiorowski at Left-Back and Puts Faith in Pepi Again

On Tuesday evening, Bartosz Gasiorowski will start at left-back for PSV. The decision by coach Peter Bosz comes largely due to injury problems: both Kiliann Sildillia and Mauro JĂșnior are unavailable to play.

“We could have chosen Anass. He is on the right path, but I feel he’s not quite there yet,” Bosz told Ziggo Sport before kick-off. “And another factor: they have four players taller than 1.90 meters. We don’t have that many big guys ourselves, especially now with Kiliann out. With Gasiorowski, we gain another player who is strong in the air.”

Confidence in Their Own Game

Despite the reshuffled backline, Bosz is sticking to his trusted 4-3-3 formation. Against NEC last weekend, he slightly adapted the approach to match Dick Schreuder’s side, but this time the focus is squarely on PSV’s own strengths.

“We always adjust a little, but it’s just a few percent,” Bosz explained. “It’s mainly about what we do ourselves. We need to be very good if we want to win this match. We must be strong and secure in possession, so their main strength — the counterattack — doesn’t come into play.”

Pepi Back in the Line-Up

Up front, Ricardo Pepi once again gets the nod. The American striker marked his return to the starting XI with two goals. He’s not ready yet for a full ninety minutes, but Bosz had no hesitation in picking him again.

“Not for a second — he immediately removed any doubt I might have had,” Bosz said firmly. “He came out of the NEC match really well. The substitution wasn’t because he asked for it, but because we wanted him to play an hour so that he’d be ready again two or three days later.”

Conclusion

With Gasiorowski providing reliability at the back and Pepi leading the attack, Bosz is aiming for balance: defensive security against the opponent’s aerial threat, and confidence in PSV’s own style of play. For the reigning champions, the mission is clear — dominate possession and neutralize the counterattack.
